Full Description

In the face of mounting attacks by police and other Whites, COFO added a new option to its voter registration tool kit—Freedom Days. Rather than taking just a few vulnerable people at a time down to the courthouse, Freedom Days transformed that effort into a multi-day event. COFO organized Freedom Days in Hattiesburg, Canton, Greenwood, and other Mississippi cities hoping to attract more media—maximizing their visibility, putting more pressure on White registrars, and enhancing security of those trying to register.
